ILT

After 38 years of prohibition, Invercargill voted in the trust system back in 1944 when we boldly decided that the legal sales of alcohol should directly benefit our community. ILT were given three mandates at that time: firstly to provide quality hospitality businesses, secondly to operate those businesses in the interest of public wellbeing, and thirdly to distribute our profits back to the community by way of grants and donations.

All these years later, we are proud to be still delivering on these goals.

ILT runs 23 hospitality businesses including accommodation, bars and restaurants, conference facilities, liquor stores, neighbourhood taverns and out-catering. We employ over 700 people and by using a combination of trading profit and income generated from gaming machines located in our various businesses, give back to the community regularly via grants, donations and sponsorships.

This community funding is used to support thriving community groups, a burgeoning arts’ culture and scholarships across tertiary education, trades, arts and sport. It also contributes to the amazing facilities and infrastructure we have in the city. Invercargill is often the envy of other provincial cities because of the facilities and infrastructure that have been built as a result of this community funding and some excellent examples are ILT Stadium Southland, SIT Velodrome and Splash Palace.

ILT exists mo to tatou hapori (for our community) and we’re delighted to play our part in making a vibrant Invercargill for all who live in our wonderful city.
