Juniors

The Poverty Bay Golf Club prides itself on being a family club and is a great place for juniors to learn to play the game.

We are committed to turning young golfers into the best players they can be, offering a supportive environment in which to develop skills and a place where they feel welcome and can make new friends.

Juniors can benefit from one-to-one golf tuition with our NZPGA-qualified professionals.

Free golfing lessons for all ages are available weekly at the club's Junior Golf Programme, every Tuesday afternoon from 3.30pm to 4.30pm with club coach Dave Keown and trainee professional Skylah Pohatu.

Each child is taught the basics of the game so they have the foundations in place to be able to go on and enjoy a lifetime of golf.  As the child’s confidence and ability grows, they progress to the stage where they can go out and enjoy playing on the course from the specially placed red tees.

Our coaches are supportive, patient and encouraging. Helpful instruction is provided to young players of all abilities and every encouragement is given to those who show special talent to realise their golfing dreams.

Whatever their level, golf is a great sport for children. It teaches respect, focus, concentration, coordination and goodwill towards others.
